Strategic Plan

Mission Statement: What's Our Business

We are the Windsor Locks Preservation Association, Inc. Working to in harmony with a love of community, we gather and preserve knowledge, books, records, artifacts and property/real estate relating to the life--past and present--of Windsor Locks, Connecticut. We provide accessibility to all who wish to examine these. We publish books and prepare for observances of Windsor Locks anniversaries. We avail ourselves to all other activities related to Windsor Locks historic preservation and awareness. We provide knowledge and guidance to all who inquire.

Vision Statement: What We're Committed To

The WLPA are preservation advocates and ambassadors for Windsor Locks who want to educate citizens, business owners and visitors about our history and architectural heritage and ensure the vitality of our community through planning rather than chance. We are committed to helping create a community that demonstrates a respect for history.

Values: What We Believe

The WLPA believes that preserving our historic resources will help make our community a better place to live and to visit. We believe we can help make change happen by grassroots organizing and speaking out on issues related to our community heritage. The WLPA will remain transparent in its operations and responsive to its members.

Goals

The WLPA will achieve its mission by:

  1. Promote and encourage the adpative reuse of historic properties.
  2. Document and promote the town's historic resources and community heritage.
  3. Encourage a town vision that uses historic preservation as an important development tool.

Strategies of Achieving Goals

  1. Promote and encourage the adpative reuse of historic properties.
    • Acquire the train station, restore and make it usable.
    • Produce a WLPA brochure that outlines the benefits of historic preservation.
    • Create programs for Preservation Month.
    • Re-instate preservation award program.
  2. Document and promote the town's historic resources and community heritage.
    • Conduct an historic building inventory.
    • Write articles on local history topics to be published in local papers.
    • Create "Walking Tours" program.
    • Create programs for Preservation Month.
  3. Encourage a town vision that uses historic preservation as an important development tool.
    • WLPA attend all public meetings.
    • Keep up to date and inform our members about relevant issues.
    • Encourage the creation of an historic district or other local regulatory tool.
